To everyone who wished me Happy Birthday last week THANK YOU so very much!
(and thanks to LJ's lousy non-existent notification system I am still discovering birthday presents and wishes.) If I've missed saying thank you please forgive me, I'm working on catching up. I've worked more hours at work this month and been well nigh exhausted, which also explains my lack of posts.
Two gifts in particular I wanted to show off to everyone:
spikesredqueen asked me the other day what I'd like for my birthday and my eloquent response was along the lines of "um, I don't know" - so knowing my love of the buffyverse ladies, she made me this beautiful Buffy/Faith/Willow banner! (Try making a smushname out of that.) Isn't it sexy and ethereal, elegant and scrumptious? It makes me wish I were a fic writer because it feels like the inspiration for a post-series 'verse, a Witch and two Slayers, powerful, strong-willed women saving the world and having incredible adventures.
Speaking of sexy, ethereal and elegant:
teragramm made this incredible addition to my Winged Buffy collection. Once again I'm awe of how skillfull the artistry is here, how delicate and how beautifully these two banners belong together. Teragramm's choice of text very much evokes memories of Buffy throughout the seasons for me, an "ordinary" girl who is really quite extraordinary in ways she herself can't begin to see; an Everywoman who takes on the weight of the world time and again.

TELL ME ABOUT IT. (lmao)
I had a day off yesterday and had a burst of creativity - worked on banners when I probably should have been housecleaning. (those dishes will do themselves, won't they?)

Made you a couple of icons to celebrate - hope you like them! Mwah!
PS. WOW! Gorgeous banners!

Date: 2015-02-26 08:56 pm (UTC)Btw, I don't believe in "belated" - mainly because I'm always behind so, I've decided "birth months" are totally the way to go. *lol*
It never occurred to me that I'd get more birthday wishes posting this, I just wanted to pimp the fine work SRQ and teragramm make. But I won't refuse more wishes/

Thank you so much! Between you me and the fencepost I "may" have made some icons with that first image for slayerstillness recently. (What was it we said the other week about great minds?)
But that second one - LOVE LOVE LOVE so much LOVE. The creamy background, the font, the text, just wonderful, thank you! I'll make room for it in my user pics (I have to jettison a few because the extra gift space ended yesterday *sobs*)

Date: 2015-02-27 05:29 pm (UTC)I'm being silly of course but I loved showing off all the icons when I commented. OTOH, 100+ was darn confusing when I was trying to find one I wanted.

Date: 2015-02-27 09:00 pm (UTC)Ha! Yes. That's the only thing I prefer about having less. I used to have over 200 but I couldn't justify paying for the extra packs anymore :'(

I assume you're using that wonderful Spock icon on purpose? I just heard about Nimoy's passing.
(That scene in one of the movies, I forget which one, where they rescue him - I have been and always will be your friend - just tears, man, crying here, you know?)

*LMAO*
On a serious-er note, is there a smushname for Willow-Faith shipping? (I'd figure you'd know, your stories were probably the first W/F ones i read.)
no subject
Date: 2015-02-27 12:48 pm (UTC)I don't think I've ever seen one for Willow/Faith, so it's up for grabs. Then again I'm not a huge fan of smushnames in the first place (though I'm still rather pleased that I managed to tag one story "Spanythingthatmoves"). I guess Willaith is as good as it gets unless you want to get creative and go with, say, Willehane. (Also, see Deird's post on pairing names, which gave the world Wooth, Weslared and Bunnewiffaithedy.)

Date: 2015-02-27 07:06 pm (UTC)There's a pairing I don't ever want to see (which means you'll write it and I'll laugh my ass off anyway. Which part of his anatomy would she wear as a hat? (Necklace?)
Then again I'm not a huge fan of smushnames in the first place
I know I wrote somewhere here why I hate smushnames but I'm too lazy to look it up. Basically I found it offensive from the time I heard Bennifer etc - I'm not sure if I'm offended as a feminist (because it's an icky expression of the "two merged into one" fantasy) or simply because I think it's childish. Also confusing.
That post from deird needs to come with a warning - I was eating when I read it, BAD IDEA *lol*
"Spanythingthatmoves"

Date: 2015-02-27 07:05 pm (UTC)Oh, that sounds interesting! So you entertain the residents? I imagine that must be rewarding but also pretty tough. (It's interesting, though -- several of my lesbian friends jobs in care services.)

Date: 2015-02-27 10:26 pm (UTC)It's very sad, I feel for the residents who are basically "captives". It's tough because one person is minding them at a time. I try.
several of my lesbian friends jobs in care services.
Lesbians have this thing about 'caring for others' and 'service' (I know several who are teachers) - but also, we tend to end up in disproportionately low-paying jobs. Gluttons for punishment I guess? Or maybe we have all the traditional female ideas about care and service, but when you have two women instead of a woman and man, the household incomes will be lower on average.
I have known some "high powered" lesbians but not many. I think we also have this programming that says success=evil.

That is very true. Most I know also tend to be more the alternative types, that's another factor. I think we tend to have a distaste for capitalistic money-grabbing, which ends up with all of us being periodically broke. 'Tis the life.

Date: 2015-02-28 02:32 am (UTC)Beats the hell outta me, honestly.
Speaking of potato salad, they cut the food budget down to something like $3.50 per person per day (from a princely $5/day). Can you believe that?
Take care, yeah? Because that sounds like it might end up being really depressing in the long run for you too.
Thank you dear, I'm taking steps to address that because I am afraid I'll burn out.

If only we could figure out a middle way. Money isn't evil, greed is. Money's just a symbol (albeit one you gotta have to pay the rent.) My sweetie is into the idea of intentional community - but a lot of the ones that exist cost a lot of money to get into in the first place. You have to have a bunch of money to live in a cheaper country, etc etc.
