......and my first "official" act in fandom was to:

[Poll #1965322][Poll #1965322]

And the correct answer is....

#5! Yup, a massive, massive fail on my part.  Actually, all of the choices represent a massive fail on my part, except for the last choice for which I DO NOT APOLOGIZE.
(She was mentioning how a character in her new novel has an opportunity to mindwipe the memories of another and doesn't because he respects her too much and it's not what she would want. Also, she just began watching btvs S1 at my urging and is NOT impressed with Angel or Xander. At all.) I actually spent hours making icons for [livejournal.com profile] slayerstillness challenge #22 "A Room Full of Emptiness" (Negative Space)" ("Ooh, I can do this one!"); hours dithering over which to chose before deciding to actually ask my beta [livejournal.com profile] wickedbish for help; and then failed to send him the link to the Photobucket folder so he could actually see the icons. By the time I figured out my mistake, it was too late to enter the challenge. (And I'm a little pissed at myself, because I think I made some good icons and really enjoyed getting back into the creative flow for the first time in weeks.)

But at least I manage to vote as the deadline isn't until tomorrow (midnight your time) hence still time to vote and pimp it - so there's a penance, at least.

And entries are being accepted for the latest challenge #23 (deadline Friday) so there's lots o' time left to enter. Yup, lots o' time....

The only fail more massive is #4 - I have NOT gotten around to congratulating all the winners of the Willowy Goodness Awards, including [livejournal.com profile] velvetwhip, [livejournal.com profile] snogged, [livejournal.com profile] foxstarreh, [livejournal.com profile] clockwork_hart1, [livejournal.com profile] tiny_white_hats, and snowpuppies amoung others. Congratulations to all the winners (by which I include "Runners Up" aka the silver and bronze medalists). I actually did vote in that one too and cheese on a cracker did you folks make it painfully hard to choose!

ETA:  ALL credit to the amazing [livejournal.com profile] eilowyn for urging me to watch Orphan Black, which I'd never heard of until she mentioned it.

I like to think that the name mefistopheles implies all kinds of orgies.

Eh, but are they actually fun orgies or "slog through this aka Eyes Wide Shut" orgies? (I'm actually a fan of that film - parts of it anyway.)

I think "Sophist" can imply orgies too - granted somewhat intellectual orgies which mine are anyway because we would read stuff and talk about it and then have the wild monkey love. Then breakfast and more readings!

Well, if Mephistopheles is involved, I'm sure they'd be fun. They'd probably have unfortunate consequences, though....

Good point about Sophist. I'd have used that name, but it was already taken when I signed up for lj. But yeah, reclining couches, lots of strong wine, exotic dancers. Just like I imagine Socrates did it.

Is it still? Not that I need you to change or anything, but since we're yakking about it...

EEP! How could I forget the couches? Except in his day they were probably hard marble (did they have stuffed pillows back then? Because cushions are a MUST.)

Well, I just did a search for the name sophist on the rename page and lj just took me to the "a" page. Could be the search is wonky. It's a good idea, though.

I have to assume the Greeks had pillows of some kind. Surely they didn't sleep on marble or stone (meaning the upper classes, of course; the peasants undoubtedly slept on straw or some such). If they didn't have pillows, I'll have to look into Roman orgies. Those looked fun on I, Claudius.

Ok, got the search function to work. The name sophist was indeed available and the change is now complete. A big thank you!

THE ONE AND ONLY!!!!!

ETA: Now the next step is a nice icon for you. Maybe Socrates laying back on his couch.....

Ok, you win the gif award too.

That's twice now that you've made good suggestions (indexing the blog being the other), so I owe you a brilliant idea. I'll let you know when one hits me. :)

Thanks! It was gonna be the Chosen Two or the Dry Cleaning dance from OMWF. Can't go wrong either way. (I actually have 300+ plus gifs in my little collection...and use maybe all of 10 or so.)

so I owe you a brilliant idea. I'll let you know when one hits me. :)

You put it in writing so I consider that a contract. *lol* I'll probably come begging when I need one!

You can ask, but just remember that it wouldn't have done any good to ask Isaac Newton about gravity before the damn apple fell. :)

I already love that episode to little pieces anyway but this is the only form I've found outtake material!

Figures you'd have an outtake gif. I'm glad I already surrendered.

OMG are you trying to make me cry? Because, oh Tara...the dark and icky context (subtext?) of that song completely subverts the Disneyesque style (and I'm amazed how often people miss the point of that.)

Yikes, no tears. I just thought of that since you were large with the butch.

And I totally missed the subtext on first watch and didn't get it until after, when Tara finds the picture of Lethe's Bramble.

LOL Full disclosure: I'm pretty far on the femme side of the continuum - but I AM the EMPRESS of the Grill and chop my own wood. That's about as butch as I get.

Full disclosure #2: So did I. In fact, I think it was reading someone else's comments that made me "get it" and then I felt like an idiot for missing it. Because there are so few representations of lesbian affection in pop culture, and I guess I didn't want to see it at first.

And the same is true of Entropy, when the dress Willow wore in OMWF is hanging on the door between them and should be a BIG RED FLAG in that moment. Instead I was lost in the romance of the kiss at first, because I wanted to be - and not knowing what was to come.

Heh. I figured it was just an expression, but the woodchopping is cool. Of course, my grandmother did that, so there.

I used to feel like an idiot at ATPO when I'd check in after the episode and see what I missed. I can be pretty clueless on first watch or read -- I have to read or watch at least twice (er, well, ok, several times) to pick up on stuff. I'm taking the Fifth on them all now.

Oh and my mom did EVERYTHING around the house - laid down fiberglass installation, repairs, mowed the lawn, made dinner (ok she hated to cook but she did it) and took care of four kids. Really strong woman and I can't even come close to her or all the women who have come before me - the ones who walk 10 miles in Africa for a bucket of water they carry on their head.

(Weaker sex, balony.) Where did your grandmother live, just out of curiosity?

Really? Because I think of you as one of the smartest people in this fandom so that actually makes me feel a little less of a dope knowing that! But that's also one of the great things about the buffyverse - you have to watch things more than once because there is so much there, there. Unlike most tv shows that are potato chips - consume them, toss out the empty bag and forget about it afterwards.
