TIME TO GET OUT AND ROCK THE (ICON) VOTE

We have a veritable TSUNAMI of icontest challenge votes (Listed in order of urgency, more or less):
1)
slayerstillness Tiebreaker for Third Place icon in Challenge 52, PART 2. Yes, part 2. No, I didn't pimp part 1. My bad. It's been whittled down from part 1 to three icons competing.
starry_night said And if it’s still not broken after this one, I’ll just call it and post winners anyway :) Personally I think it's cute and it's an honor to be considered good enough to compete with and hold my own with artists I admire and who are far more experienced. (What? If you voted already you'd know that I had to beg out as a nominee. So if this a surprise, you clearly haven't voted yet and need to do so. Or you're one of those people who are disciplined enough to not check out who else voted in which case, I aspire.)
For some reason I thought tiebreaker voting was unusual, or more usual lately until I check out the history of the comm and saw that tiebreaker voting is the rule rather than the exception going all the way back to Challenge # 4. Personally my favorite icons that round were the Mod's Choice winners by
teragramm and
tempertemper; and
moriwen1's icon of Angel with a cobalt blue mug. But I didn't know about the comm back then so I didn't get a say. Boo-hoo.

2)
whedon_elite Challenge #126 "Weapon of Choice" Vote for Top Three, Best Color and Best Crop amoung 17 dynamic entries. Full disclosure, this one probably does have a runaway winner. (I should know, I voted for it. You'll see what I mean.) But everything else? Totally up for grabs.
3)
btvsats20in20 The big kahuna in my icontest world and the reason I don't compete in any other 20in20 comm. Those of you who participate in more than one? You have MY RESPECT. For those of you who are newbies, there are three posts:
THEMES -TEN separate icons to vote for, and remember you have to press the "vote" button ten times, not once to cover all your choices.
CATEGORY SET - Choose your top 3 sets, and top six individual icons.
ARTIST'S CHOICE SET - Ditto. This always ends up being harder than I expect. You'd think after a year I'd know to expect that?
And btw, if I didn't vote for your icon? I apologize. I probably wanted to. Especially the Category sets - I wanted to vote for my favorite 12 icons. At least.

Date: 2015-09-22 03:25 am (UTC)I used to do challenges at a now defunct challenge community, it was either
(Why yes, I just an expressed a mild opinion so there.) Go you! You should do that more often ~_^ !!

Date: 2015-09-22 08:14 am (UTC)That's a nifty idea! I actually don't know why that can't be done more often.

Of course there is the issue of pissing people off, even if unintentionally. (Not like I have oodles of people paying attention to me, but still. I suspect that my 20-year old self would look at me now and wonder "When did you get so timid?")

Date: 2015-09-22 12:04 pm (UTC)I also think it would be fun to have a challenge where you could re enter only icons that won. Just to see if they held up to the the test of time.

Date: 2015-09-22 12:27 pm (UTC)That happens to me ALL THE TIME.
Just to see if they held up to the the test of time.
Of course that would be kind of misleading because it's not going to be the exact same people, or the exact same number of voters, the second time. But I do find it interesting to go back over old challenges, including ones I didn't participate in (like SS #4), or older sets of my own entries (I'm working on a post right now) and see what I think is still good.
And a lot of times my response ends up being "Huh? That won? That got overlooked?" As everyone has told me, you can't account for taste. You really can't.

Date: 2015-09-22 03:34 pm (UTC)That is a damn cool idea, actually! There are SO many icons being made (have you seen one voting post of character20in20 alone?) that some great ones inevitably get by-passed. I'm all for more chances to show off one's work.
After all, stories can get nominated at SunnyD memorial or the Wicked awards etc repeatedly so long as they haven't previously won.

Date: 2015-09-22 02:40 pm (UTC)It's not THAT old. *lmal*
And it really is lovely - the color and clarity of the light, and the perspective you captured, that glint of blue on the ceiling, it's perfect as far as I'm concerned (and yes I've squirreled it away to add to my user pics later.) It wasn't until I wrote this post that I noticed how great those three icons look together with the blue. I would have thought yours and moriwen's were by the same artist looking at the two of them side by side because of those splashes of color.
Voting is so hard, yo.
TELL ME ABOUT IT, SISTER! ;P
There were a couple of themes at 20in20 I stared and stared, and went back and forth "eeney-meeney-miney-moe just throw the damn dart already". (Which sounds like me picking out entries, actually.)
I'd love to have challenge where we don't vote, we just enjoy each other's work and flaunt our own - but would we keep responding it there weren't prizes? Nope. I've seen lots of rounds of sb_fagends where no one responds to the challenge but in October they awarded points and it became a competition and folks came out of the woodwork,. And the stories kicked serious butt.
We're all pavlov's dog, basically, slavering for a treat. In this instance, I got excited when I saw the results of 20in20 because my first thought was "banners from TT, yay!"
