A little, but I was glad to see the episode. I had a rough day prior to seeing said friend. He fed me pizza and Amy and Rory helped my mood.
I've never seen Matt Smith referred to as "The American Doctor." But I do know he had some idiosyncrasies that might set him up to be viewed that way (especially the episode where he was blatantly dressed as a cowboy.)
I think Capaldi is a great choice for a doctor.
I just think they should have cast a new companion. Clara should have ended with the 11th doctor.
