And yet Spain has gay marriage. As does Uruguay in South America. Aren't they both primary Catholic countries? I can't get my head around that. And the fact that, according to friends, Northern Ireland has not adopted gay marriage because of the conservative protestant forces in the country (much like the conservative protestant/fundamentalist forces in the US that held sway in the '80's and '90's.)
It's all just so - weird.
If only things weren't still stuck in the Midde Ages here in Italy... *shakes head*
Sorry, dear! But, um, didn't Pope Francis just write about the importance of ecology? Baby steps? (I keep hoping the entire Vatican and the edifice that is the Catholic hierarchy sinks into the ground never to be heard from again - but I wish that of all oppressive religions. And from what kikimay has mentioned to me, the Church is still very powerful in Italy.)
But I would wear a "Fuck Thomas Aquinas" t-shirt. I'd actually pay money for said shirt.
