Love that kudos button in AO3. Leaving comments can be so problematic sometimes for all of the above reasons. And on the converse side, I often have no idea what to reply to comments. I post to ff.net because it is so easy to do so. AO3 confuses me and makes me work for the privilege so I've posted like two things there. I do like their philosophy though and the fact that they are willing to fight for the rights of fic authors and therefore deserve our support.
