Thanks muchly - and help yourself to a cookie.
I mean this kind of cookie, silly. Not this kind.

(Oh don't look at me that way. I've been waiting to make that joke for a whole year.)

My biggest problem with LJ is formatting a post with more than one paragraph in it - sentences break at the wrong places, paragraphs smush together, etc. I don't see this on other folks' LJ's and I hope to God I don't have to learn html 'cause - not gonna happen.

ETA: It's there for me if I view the entry in my own style settings.
Obviously that doesn't help much, I know, but maybe it'll help narrow down the problem. :P

Yeah, I notice that now. I usually browse with images disabled and if you do that, it doesn't seem to pop up. Maybe sms had the same problem?
I don't get why they add all these stupid "features". I have to turn off adblock and spotify to see comments in some journals.

I haven't had to do that yet, although yesterday I had to get use to the way some tumblr blogs are set up - move your cursor a little too far to the right margin and the ads cover up the content until you move it back.
The template I had before this one - the woodcut series - had a bar for ads on the side or top; oddly enough this one I'm using now doesn't, and I do have a free account. Maybe they get enough money from elsewhere - it's not like I'd actually click on one of those stupid ads. (Does anybody, except by accident?)
I noticed that they just changed LJ homepage and made it INFINITELY more confusing (yeesh) - as if we need MORE visual gobbledygook thrown at us. fortunately I've got my bookmark directly to my journal and bypass it altogether.
FYI: how funny is it that my LJ marks "tumblr" as a misspelling but recognizes "gobbledygook"? ;)

I think you and I might be in the minority on that subject, but I don't mind. I almost used the screencap of her and Spike lying next to each other that night. I guess I wanted to keep the emphasis on her, not him?

Otherwise, I have no idea. I was having so many problems with everything on the interwebs that I had to get a new computer! Browsers and operating systems and whatnot get less functional over time, alas. *shakes fist at all those whippersnappers whizzing by on their fancy new rigs*
Good luck, sweetie!

Has your paid account expired?
Never had one. I've been unemployed for - um, a while *she whispers*, so I'll take all the freebies I can get.
Barb said she could see the buttons when she passed the cursor over the grey bar, and now I can too. I coulda sworn they had disappeared or - something. I may be brain dead.

Hah. Ever since my sweetie got her iMac (the computer I'm at now) and her mac laptop she's complained "It should be faster than this!" Then she talks about cutting out high speed internet and going back to the slower version? I don't think so.
I don't know about Macs, but my experience from when we had a PC was that it would basically last a couple of years and then we'd have to upgrade so many parts of the CPU we'd basically paid for a new computer. At least this mac has been around for at least 5 years. I doubt if we'll switch back.

Also, I hope your problem gets resolved.

ETA: Ok, what I'm seeing is that the edit button (and a couple of others) appear when I mouseover the shaded header area of a comment. i.e. they're still there, they're just invisible for some reason.

I haven't seen anything in the settings that allows me to keep those buttons visible at all times, so I guess it's something to do with the way this particular template is designed.
