And finally - the brilliant beyond belief*
clockwork_hart1 created a "multi-fandom" Gods and Monsters ficathon and I'm calling it ongoing because there are tons of great prompts and new ones being added constantly; so fill a prompt with a fic or artwork, and check out the works of art on the masterlist.

If you don't believe my "brilliant beyond belief" description then please read her Buffyverse/Doctor Who crossover fic (death) for my birthday. Dawn is the Tardis. Dawn slides under and then there are hands on her chest and water spilling up her throat and for a moment Dawn is as big as the room and spreading further outward, as far as she can reach. (I fear Lucy might think I haven't read it because I didn't comment but oh goodness, I have. Or rather I didn't read it, I made it part of my life because her prose slides under my skin as easily as Dawn submerges herself beneath the water.) If "I'm not familiar with fandom X" is worrying to you, don't let it put you off; I haven't seen any of the new Who series myself although I'm vaguely aware of the players. (Seven and Ace were my Doctor and companion, when I was in college and introduced to the series.)

ANCELYN: Yes, My Lady.
BAMBERA: You call me, 'My Lady' once more and I'll slice your head off!
~~~
BAMBERA (climbing into car): So, you married, or what?
(later)
ANCELYN: Tell me, My Lady... Art thou betrothed?
~~~
Fave Companions: Ace; Sarah-Jane; Liz Shaw.
They were the best pairing in the roles ever; unfortunately; as with Colin Baker's Doctor, they were undermined by a BBC wanting to kill the series off. Eventually they (never actually cancelled) just never made anymore; not even bothering to celebrate the 30th Anniversary.

We were watching the series in college and it was "live" (or as current as the US stations could get it) and then it just - ended. "Hiatus" we were told - we should have known that meant "cancelled". An ignominious ending to a 30 year tv landmark that deserved more respect from the BBC.
One of my friends at the time told me that Doctor Who was still pretty much considered a kids' show in the UK while here in the US it was cherished by college students and adults. (Especially the Tom Baker years.)
You're making me regret that we gave up Netflix btw because they had both the new and classic seasons on instant stream and I didn't take advantage of it.

Thanks for sharing the rec. I hadn't seen that one.
P.S. I am watching the new series of Who. I started with 9, but I consider the 10th doctor to be my doctor. Favorite companions include: Rose, Martha, and Amy Pond.

One of my best (ex-)friends was a HUGE David Tennant fan and what I know about new Who I learned mostly from her.
I've only seen two eps with new Who, one with Nine that I can't really describe too well, and one with Martha and Ten meeting Shakespeare. Elisi tried to get me to watch the episodes with River Song and I want to but then I read too much and am disappointed by what I read and am hesitant to get into it. The effects are certainly impressive and mile beyond anything in old school Who. Are you all the way to the current Doctor? (12 I think?)

I like the 12th doctor, but I don't think he has much chemistry with Clara.

I've seen Matt Smith referred to as "the American Doctor" why is that?

I think it's kind of interesting that Capaldi represents a return to the older Doctors (1 - 3, 7) and the Doctor as sort of a fatherly/grandfatherly or authority figure after three younger Doctors. (I don't know if 9 and 11 are considered sex symbols but my friend threw over her obsession with Ewan McGregor for Tennant. I admit, I never quite got it.) I wonder if that will turn out to be a wise casting decision or not.

I've never seen Matt Smith referred to as "The American Doctor." But I do know he had some idiosyncrasies that might set him up to be viewed that way (especially the episode where he was blatantly dressed as a cowboy.)
I think Capaldi is a great choice for a doctor.
I just think they should have cast a new companion. Clara should have ended with the 11th doctor.

Don't they often have a companion carry over as a sort of "bridge" element from an old doctor to the new one? (I haven't made a study of it. But that's not always true either. Maybe it was something to do with the actress' contract?)
Something I know from my brief time in live theater - what the actors/director see and what the audience sees are two different things. So, when we knew and worked with each other, the bits that someone came up with would delight us but meant nothing to the audience. That might be the same thing here - or maybe the show runner had a particular story to tell and WHY am I playing devil's advocate here for a show I haven't even seen? STOP ME NOW.

*giggles*
The companions aren't always a bridge - Martha Jones, Donna, and Amy Pond never experienced a change in the doctors. They did experience a change in show-runners, however. Let me give you a break-down:
Russell T Davies
9th Doctor: Rose Tyler
10th Doctor: Rose Tyler, Martha Jones, Donna Noble
Stephen Moffatt
11th Doctor: Amy Pond, Amy Pond and Rory, Clara Oswin Oswald
12th Doctor: Class Oswin Oswald
I don't count River Song as a companion. She's the Doctor's Wife.

Is she also Susan's grandmother or no? (does the series ever deal with the Doctor's children? )

ETA: the funny thing was that Susan wasn't supposed to be his granddaughter, just a companion but this being the 1960's the networks had issues with a very young girl flying around in a box with an old man. (Which is not just a 1960's thing - probably the reason they had to make the point in Helpless about Giles having a "father's love for the child". Because when you start to think about it....which is why it's best not to think about it.)

I managed to make it to halfway in S6 of the new show, but I could see where it was going and knew that I didn't want to follow. Before S6 ALL River Songs eps are absolute classics though; even the two-parter in the Library.
Blink is possibly amongst the best Doctor Who ever filmed, and I loved seeing Sarah-Jane and the Doctor meet; as well as The Girl in the Fireplace but, as much as I enjoyed those two eps it made me realise that if the show wasn't called Doctor Who, I probably wouldn;t be watching it.

I've tried not to read spoilers but I suspect I'll be unhappy with where they take River. S5 is probably what
Carey Mulligan was in Blink? Oh this I do need to see. Thank you for the advice and recommendations, this will be very helpful when I finally do get around to watching the new seasons.

and then I found it hilarious that this whole post became The Doctor Who Discourse 2015, because that is the level of humour i posses &such.
I feel like I also have things to add to The Discourse but I'm at a loss. My main feelings about the show in general are GIRLS♥ which isn't much help and I mainly run on my own personal memories and headcanons than actual canon, because we all know i know the characters better than the writers do and would never fuck them over in such ways. cough cough.

And I have NO IDEA how that happened.
