Vote now at the otherworldlyric icontest!

http://otherworldlyric.livejournal.com

I didn't enter this round because of general busy-ness-ness the last week (and being in NY and et cetera) but I just voted - so please do go vote for your favorite entries in this round because there are so fantastically lovely entries. I love the delicacy of this set overall.

Did I mention I'm back from NYC, btw? I'm baaaaaaaaacccccccckkkkkk.......

There will be fluffy stories this week, m'dears.

And if I get my act together, a Buffy & Joyce meta inspired by [livejournal.com profile] comlodge's beautiful School Hard/Chosen banner:

(You know I'm not at my home computer when I'm reduced to typing out the  addys.)

I voted!

Have you voted at Willowy Goodness?

No but I saw the reminders! How much time do I have? Because truth be told I probably need to read the entries before I vote! (It's a thing with me.) The good news is, I'm a fast reader!

Ummm... voting ends today.

Sorry. I thought I had posted reminders everywhere I should but I guess i didn't.

You have! Not your fault at all, but I was so busy before going off to NYC with all sorts of things that I honestly let it slip. Not for the first time (I've completely missed the second to last round of Sunnydale Memorial Awards - horrors!)

[identity profile] velvetwhip.livejournal.com 2014-03-09 08:09 pm (UTC)(link)
Your life is incredibly hectic so you are entirely excused, believe me!

BTW, how is everything going?

Gabrielle

[identity profile] red-satin-doll.livejournal.com 2014-03-09 08:19 pm (UTC)(link)
Thank you kind and merciful mistress!

Everything is going - I guess ok! The gentleman who I work for two days a week wants me to add a third day starting next week, so he's definitely happy with what I do! I don't feel as wiped out from NYC as I expected to, but I think acupuncture treatments every week have made a huge difference for me in so many ways - and the city didn't overwhelm me the way it did ten years ago. I felt like I might have a seizure on Thursday but other than that I was ok.

I have lots to tell - we bought loose tea in Chinatown!

[identity profile] velvetwhip.livejournal.com 2014-03-09 08:23 pm (UTC)(link)
Yay! I keep hearing wonderful things about acupuncture. Maybe someday I can give it a try. I am so thrilled it's helping you and that you made it through NYC with only one scare. *hugs*

Acupuncture is like anything else - a lot of it really depends on the practicioner. If you're not comfortable with the person, it won't work. And I've been to people where it just didn't for me, and maybe that person would work find for someone else. The last three or so years my sweetie and I have been going to someone who is very good, very skilled and very serious about his work as a medical acupuncturist. He's studied in china and the US, and will be going back to Thailand later in the year because he was invited back to teach there. He's only the second acupuncturist my sweetie and i have been to for a substantial length of time in the last 20 years.

So yes, I am VERY lucky. He still has a practice in NYC in Chinatown actually (although he's American) but he happened to establish a second practice in the town I'm living in.

I didn't enter this round That's funny because I did!

Did you have fun in "the city"?

[identity profile] red-satin-doll.livejournal.com 2014-03-09 07:57 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm dying to know whose entries are whose. Slayerstillness opens the voting threads and entry threads after the winners are announced and I like that - it's lots of fun to see who made what and who voted for what. otherworldlyric doesn't and I still don't know who made two of the entries I voted for in the last round.

BTW - shall I confess which entries I voted for?

And yes, we had a lot of fun - in between running hither and yon, sugar-blood drops, and occasionally wanting to throttle my sweetie. I think we are "arted out" for the year.

Short story: the Armory show is something I never have to do again; the Brooklyn Museum is one of the best general art museums I've been to. The Pod 39 - or 51 is affordable and great value for the money; and the food at the Delmonico market (esp the hot bar) on Lexington is fantastic, also reasonable and delish - but not open on weekends. *pout*

Also? the UN Building looks like nothing without all the flags flying, except a concrete brick.

I have to admit that I rarely go into "the city", and it's only a 20 minute train ride into Manhattan. *shrugs*

BTW - shall I confess which entries I voted for? Yes! I'm really curious. Just FYI, I only entered one icon. *shrugs again*

[identity profile] red-satin-doll.livejournal.com 2014-03-10 11:16 am (UTC)(link)
Which borough do you live in? We were talking to a married couple at a Bareburger restaurant on the upper east side and he was asking where we were going, if we needed directions etc but his wife said, half-jokingly, that he was only good for their little neighborhood. We discovered that a lot, but that's true for most of us, I guess, New Yorkers or not - we know our little place where we live and work but not much outside it. (I've never been to the seaport museum in the town where I've lived over 10 years.)

I'd like to go back to Brooklyn and explore a bit more, then maybe the other boroughs as well. (We've already been to Staten Island once before.) The area around the BAM felt so relaxed after the subway ride from Manhattan. Everything being relative of course.

Yes! I'm really curious. Just FYI, I only entered one icon. *shrugs again*

I voted for 1, 4 and 5.

ETA: #2 was my 4th choice. There's always a "runner up" in these things that I wonder afterwards, "should I have voted for that one? Can I have one more slot pretty please?"

Which borough do you live in? I live in Queens, the very end of Queens, two blocks away is the city limits. Oldest son just moved to Staten Island before that he was in Bay Ridge (Brooklyn)

I voted for 1, 4 and 5.
ETA: #2 was my 4th choice.
All good choices, I usually don't vote in a challenge, if I entered but if I did, I would have voted for 2, 8, &13, (Which of course does not include the icon I made ~_^)

After the contest is finished, if you want to know, I'll tell you which one was my icon.

[identity profile] red-satin-doll.livejournal.com 2014-03-10 07:31 pm (UTC)(link)
I admit I've wanted to go to Chinatown in Flushing after we saw it on an Anthony Bourdain program. We always go to the one in Manhattan when were in the city anyway.

After the contest is finished, if you want to know, I'll tell you which one was my icon.

Please do!

Fyi I wasted the entire day making icons for the current challenge. I think I have one or two that I actually like, and about 1000 more ideas *sigh*

Now that the winners are up in the challenge I can tell you, my icon was #1.

One of my vote getters, yay! I'm saved from cringy embarrassment!

I'm saved from cringy embarrassment! I'm not that mean!! I wouldn't have offered to tell you which icon was mine if you hadn't voted for it. (I wouldn't have wanted to put you on the spot.)

[identity profile] red-satin-doll.livejournal.com 2014-03-11 07:13 pm (UTC)(link)
I apologize if that came off wrong, I was kidding. My sense of humor doesn't always come off the way I intend it!

No need to apologize, I wasn't offended.

My sense of humor doesn't always come off the way I intend it! I totally understand, I'm from New York. ~_^

[identity profile] red-satin-doll.livejournal.com 2014-03-11 11:28 pm (UTC)(link)
I totally understand, I'm from New York.

I forgot! Mind = sieve.

(BTW, we had a good time in NYC - and why doesn't anyone ever say how NICE and courteous most New Yorkers are? )

[identity profile] teragramm.livejournal.com 2014-03-12 03:18 am (UTC)(link)
and why doesn't anyone ever say how NICE and courteous most New Yorkers are? Because that would ruin our reputation. ~_^

New Yorkers are notorious for speaking their mind and for many, using the f word is like saying hello. So this combo, only feed the "New Yorkers are rude" mentality.

Welcome back! Hope you had a nice trip.

I voted and this time, strangely, not something involving Buffy (the character, not the show). XD

I did have a nice trip thank you! The BAM was great.

I voted for 1, 4 & 5 (2 would have been my fourth choice) - I have absolutely no idea who the character or what fandom #4 represents. In challenge 163 I voted for 3, 6 & 7 (2 was my fourth choice) and again, no idea who these people are or what fandom.

I also voted for 4 and 5! I don't know who is 4 (Is it possible that she's girl from Cabin in the Woods?) I don't know. I just think that the icon is very pretty.

[identity profile] red-satin-doll.livejournal.com 2014-03-10 07:32 pm (UTC)(link)
4 & 5 are very delicate and subtle, which I adore. I just vote based on what's most appealing to my eye, I don't give a damn about the fandoms. *lol*

Welcome back from NYC. Looking forward to hearing your stories. :)

[identity profile] red-satin-doll.livejournal.com 2014-03-10 12:23 pm (UTC)(link)
Thanks, hon! It's good to be back.

[identity profile] spikesredqueen.livejournal.com 2014-03-10 03:56 am (UTC)(link)
Thanks for the heads up, I went ahead and voted. I completely forgot to enter because I became busy these last few days. Welcome back from your trip!

[identity profile] red-satin-doll.livejournal.com 2014-03-10 12:48 pm (UTC)(link)
I was too busy to enter this challenge or slayerstillness - but I also wasn't inspired by the prompts. With otherworldlyrics the problem was familiarity - Petula Clark's voice in my head. This is why I don't listen to the song itself if I don't know it beforehand.

When I voted however, the song was completely divorced from the icons; I'd forgotten what the song was. I just saw the pretties.

I just voted on the slayerstillness contest Rock your body, did you enter that one?

[identity profile] spikesredqueen.livejournal.com 2014-03-14 06:14 am (UTC)(link)
No, that wasn't one of my icons. My icons were kind of plain this time around.

[identity profile] lynnylou.livejournal.com 2014-03-10 07:50 am (UTC)(link)
Welcome Back! Did you have a good time in NYC?

[identity profile] red-satin-doll.livejournal.com 2014-03-10 12:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh yes I did thank you!
