It's too easy to fall back on effects as a crutch; when I'm not satisfied with a batch of icons i'm making that is often what happened.

Ditto, no matter the amount of fancy effects if it doesn't work right from the start. :)

I do have more "fun" icons than I let on. I need to let those out to play.
