Tsunami of Polls #1 : Any interest in a comm devoted to Buffy and the women of the Buffyverse?
#1 - Thank you to whomever gifted me with a temporary paid account last month. Now I can create polls! Oh wonderful Anonymous Benefactor, you have no idea what you have unleashed upon this fandom.
#2 - Thanks also the the lovely
velvetwhip for coming up with the insanely awesome title/tag phrase "tsunami of polls" and allowing me to snag it.

The other day I was having a conversation with

You know what they say about "assuming".
Oops.

What say you, Gentle Reader? Based just on the title of this post, you probably know who you are and how you stand.
(And as this is my first poll, please let me know if it functions ok. And I apologize for the wonky formatting. The LJ instructions for poll-making are vague and confusing at best. So says I.)

I get that prompts work for a lot of people (and they write amazing, amazing stuff. I'm just in awe of that.) But maybe there could also be some flexibility for random fic as well? Like maybe one open-post day a month or something.
Yes, that's a W/K icon.

I'm not even visualizing this as a primarily fic comm actually, more of a mix and hopefully discussing (I am THE Ambassador of Meta. You may call me "Madame Ambassador".)
But I completely understand where you are coming from because prompts - I can write stuff but I can't look at a prompt and respond to it. Some people are very good at that, me not so much. (That's why I'll probably never do anything for sb_fag_ends or the like.)
And in terms of giving out "prompts", I can come up with ideas for things I'd like to see. (like, Why didn't Anya speak up when Buffy didn't ask for a salary for herself in Checkpoint? Or just "buffy and tara friendship fic" Or just "write about Dawn" etc etc) but I'm not one to put out a specific prompt like "you have to use this word or phrase" etc. I've beta'd fics based on specific prompts and sometimes they work fantastically and sometimes I'd like to throw the "prompt" out the window. The idea of a writer being absolutely stuck with "you MUST use these words" seems weird to me.
The Big Damn Lovefest was fun because we picked a date last March, and chose the episode we wanted to write about. I like having that flexibility.

Talk about an existential identity crisis...... :)

I'd love it if this was a community that could be a home for the Dawn and Anya and Kennedy fics that I hope to finish someday. I know if I write shipper fic or genfic about certain characters, there's a LJ community for those. I'd love to see the same for all the ladies of the Buffyverse. But I'm cool with waiting and seeing how it evolves, and will definitely lurk if nothing else.

Have you seen the mulitfandom comm halfamoon btw? I just discovered it today and don't have time to look around this weekend but they're doing 14 days of celebrating the ladies. Maybe some of your fics could go there for now?
