I actually participated to whedonland a few summers ago and it's not so competitive as you may think. It's all good fun really and those group are more like Harry Potter houses in a way, if there's a challenge you like and you can take it you go for it and earn some points in the process, if not you'll catch another one soon enough.

Indeed, fandom is my safe/comfort place. ^^
