Hell yes. She walks away from SD at the end of S2 and tries to erase her identity - commits a "little death" so to speak but it doesn't take. At the end of S5 she is literally fucking dead because there was no other way to protect her sister and keep her promise to Joyce. (Have you read my meta on Buffy's promise in Listening to Fear?
