*nods* have you read the "Seasons Marching On" by that zanthinegirl rec'd upthread? That's EXACTLY what it's about, except he's concerned with the wider good of the world rather than just Buffy herself. And it's so completely plausible in canon, which makes me squeeful. And I definitely see what you're saying about Giles going bad in S3 rather than S7 having a very different impact.
